Frequently asked Questions
What happens in a Hypnotherapy session?
For Hypnotherapy to work you will need to enter a trance like state. This is achieved through a ‘script’ of deep muscle relaxation and a visual deepener. Once through this suggestion based on the issues you want to address will be used. When the script is complete you will be gently brought back to awareness and given time to reorientate. The session is usually ended with some feedback about how you felt or anything that you may have noticed.
How many sessions is recommended for Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy usually consists of an initial session to go through your goals for change, likes and dislikes to get personalised sessions and details of how Hypnotherapy sessions work. Following that, you will have 4-6 sessions of full Hypnotherapy, depending on the plan we agree together at the start of the 2nd
Can you make me do anything I don’t want to do?
No! Whilst Hypnotherapy gets you to a trance like state you are still in full control. The movies and stage shows do not represent the reality of Hypnotherapy. With Hypnotherapy you can’t be made to do anything you don’t want to. The suggestions will only work if you have an open mind and want to let the changes in. If you are closed minded, the changes won’t take effect.
How will I feel after the session?
How you will feel varies from client to client. The whole process is about a deep sense of relaxation so clients often feel relaxed, calm, regenerated and sometimes sleepy. Others may feel clarity, whilst others may feel tired or spaced out. At the end of each session some time will be allowed for you to reorientate before leaving. These effects will usually wear off in an hour or so.
Will I notice immediate changes?
Some clients notice changes immediately following their session. However, for some the changes may be slower and more gradual. It all depends on what you are working through in each session.
Can it be used alongside other talking therapies?
Absolutely! It can be a great compliment to more traditional talking therapies, particularly if you feel “stuck” on a particular issue.
